2018 Kennedy Memorial Recap
Over the Martin Luther King Jr. weekend, Friday, January 12th – Monday, January 15th, over 200 teams from across North America organized in the Massachusetts, Rhode Island and New Hampshire area for the most anticipated youth hockey tournament in the Northeast region. Spread across 15 rinks throughout the region, over 3,600 youth athletes participated in the annual Kennedy Memorial Tournament, in honor of the late John W. Kennedy Jr and John W. Kennedy III.
Over the course of four days, 3,600+ athletes ranging in age from 7-14 years old, played at either the AA or AAA level, but as the late John W Kennedy Jr always said, “Hockey is like an elevator, everyone gets off at a different level, but life goes on.” Regardless of classification rank [AA or AAA] this elite tournament had many shocking moments throughout the weekend which resulted in championships for some AA teams over AAA programs, because hockey is about discipline, routine and leadership and these teams certainly exemplified those characteristics.
